by Founders Financial — It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind, focusing solely on quarterly results and bottom lines in order to reach a perceived state of peace or tranquility. But what if there’s more to all of this? What if your journey as a CEO requires a deeper exploration of self? What if the goal is not to become comfortable, but to push beyond the boundaries of comfort? What kind of questions should you be asking yourself in order to progress to that next level of leadership? This week, we will be asking you some questions that you may not have answers for. And that’s okay! What’s important is whether you will choose to find them.

Are You Too Comfortable and Susceptible to Disruption?

Growth is a term often thrown around boardrooms in the context of hard and fast figures, but the growth that emerges from stepping outside your comfort zone is brought up less frequently. In the quest for excellence, complacency can be a subtle yet formidable adversary. Are you comfortable in your enterprise? More importantly, why?

Comfort may provide a reassuring sense of stability, but it can also be the very chain that restrains innovation, learning, and personal development. The most profound growth occurs when we challenge ourselves, when we venture into the unknown, disrupting patterns and conventionalism and embracing the discomfort that comes with it.

Do You Live Your Values?

As a leader, your role involves steering financial strategies, sure, but also discovering your own driving purpose and then aligning it with how you serve others, providing influence in pursuit of their unique goals and dreams. Ask yourself: do you lead with a clear understanding of your own core values? And are these values woven into the fabric of your enterprise, or do they exist only as superficial mantras that lack convinction and a resolute mindset?

Your purpose should guide every decision, every interaction. It’s this alignment that nurtures a thriving enterprise and a dedicated team, thus creating a narrative that resonates with relationships, employees, and stakeholders. It’s one thing to have a mission statement on a wall, and another thing entirely to live it with passion.

Are You Surrounded by the Right People?

True growth happens when you invite others to share the journey and support development of your authentic leadership style. Have you forged meaningful connections with peers who share your vision for growth? Have you embraced the wisdom of a community?

Collaboration isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s an emblem of strength. The exchange of ideas and the camaraderie of fellow leaders can illuminate new perspectives and untapped opportunities. Isolation isn’t a path to success one should gravitate toward. If you’re your own product, then you have no real competition. So surround yourself with other passionate individuals that seek to help you become the best version of yourself.

Do You Have a Vision?

As a leader, you are the architect of your enterprise’s future. But have you ever questioned whether your strategy extends beyond the immediate horizon? When was the last time you let your visionary thinking flourish, unburdened by daily tasks?

Vision without strategy is like a ship without a rudder. Conversely, strategy devoid of visionary thinking lacks the compass to navigate changing tides. It’s in the interplay between the two that true growth is cultivated. Are you walking this delicate balance?

What Will Your Legacy Be?

What legacy are you sowing within your enterprise? Legacy is about more than the monetary aspects—it’s about the imprint you leave on your team, your relationships, your community, and the world you’ve created for yourself and others. Are you nurturing the next generation of leaders? Have you secured a pathway for your enterprise’s continuity? How will the people you serve be taken care of when you’re gone?

Legacy isn’t a chapter you write at the end of your career; it’s a narrative woven throughout your journey. It’s about fostering an environment where your values, insights, and wisdom reverberate even in your absence.

What Kind of Leader Will You Be?

Leadership is more than managing figures and making decisions. It begins with the natural feeling that one “wants” to serve, to serve first – accepting the gift of authority and influence given to you by those in your care. It’s an odyssey of continuous growth, self-discovery, and the audacity to step outside the known. Are you content with merely managing your enterprise, or are you ready to evolve into a genuine servant leader, steering with authenticity and resilience?

As a CEO, you possess the ultimate power to shape the trajectory of your enterprise, to redefine leadership, to guide others through your vision, and to create a legacy that transcends the confines of time. Continue to ask yourself questions like the ones in this article, and don’t stop until you have answers for them all.

Once you’ve done that, find more.

Remember, this journey you’ve undertaken is not one with a finite goal. There is no, “Once I’ve done x, y, or z, my enterprise will be complete.” It will continue to grow and expand in the way that you nurture it, much like a sapling treated with water and sunlight. How much of each will you give it, and what kind of life will you cultivate as a result? The answer to this last question, just like all the others, is up to you.
